1. Eye up the sales

Many savvy holiday makers sit tight for the sales to hit to book their escape - you can follow which airlines are hosting flight sales here.

The Big British Airways sales tend to drop around June, September, December and towards the end of January. If you've missed out, view their late deals for competitive deals as airlines rush to fill seats last minute.

2. Look for 'add on' freebies and deals
