Save thousands on flights by flying from a different city

The art of airline pricing is a mythical one; often there is no obvious reason as to why a saving is involved.

One of the things you can do to save literally thousands of pounds on travel is to ADD flights to your trip!

Here's an example. I wanted to fly from London to Las Vegas in Virgin's Upper Class cabin. Cost: over £4000. However if I start my journey in Dublin, I fly from Dublin to Gatwick, then get on the SAME PLANE and continue the journey to Las Vegas. Cost: £1200. Same service, and an extra flight, for thousands less. Go figure! I then simply book a separate flight from London to Dublin to make sure I'm there in plenty of time to catch the main flight.

Of course, this does add some time to the journey, but I fly to Dublin the night before and stay in a hotel to add an extra day to my holiday. On the way back, I also have to fly via Dublin. You have to weigh up whether the savings or improved cabin are worth the extra hassle.

The biggest savings are to be had in the business and premium cabins, but if prices are super high you can still save a few hundred in economy, and obviously if you're with a group or family that saving soon adds up.

You can also check routes via some other cities in Europe. Copenhagen is another city where strange routing prices can save you a packet.
