See Films for Free

You might have heard of preview screenings where films are shown in cinemas before their general release. However did you know that some distributors offer free tickets to these screenings?

They do this to increase the hype about a film through word of mouth, which should increase the number of people wanting to pay to see the film. After all if you liked the film then you would rave about it to your friends who would then be inclined to see it.

The most recent film I saw using a free ticket was "The Martian" in 3D, a few days before it came out on general release. Even the 3D glasses were free, all I had to do was turn up and watch it.

How do I get tickets?

For the money saving moviegoer there are a few websites where you can register for free tickets:

Show Film First

Free Movies UK

Total Film

Paramount Previews

Disney Screenings

Note that demand for these free tickets is predictably high so you have to keep your eyes peeled especially if you want two or more. Also not all major releases will have a free screening so it’s down to luck whether a film you’re interested in will have any free screening at a cinema near you.

Still it’s worth signing up for the occasional free movie.

Alternatives

Some not quite free alternatives are:

Meerkat Movies which offers 2 for the price of 1 tickets

Some cinemas also have reduced ticket prices on a slow day of the week, eg Cineworld’s Bargain Tuesdays, or Empire’s Sav£rday Tuesday or before peak times, eg Odeon’s Supersaver tickets (Mon-Thu). So do check your local cinema’s website to see how you can save money on their tickets.
