What is SIM swap?

If your giffgaff SIM card is broken, or you have a new phone that uses a different size SIM card, you can replace it with a new SIM. This is what we call a 'SIM swap'.

How long does it take to get a new SIM?

Once ordered, your new giffgaff SIM should arrive within 2 business days. SIMs ordered before 5.00pm (Monday-Friday) should arrive the next business day.

What do I do when my new SIM arrives?

First, you'll need to activate your new giffgaff SIM. You can do this by clicking below. During the activation process you'll automatically be asked if you want to replace your existing SIM with the new one.

Your new SIM will keep your existing phone number and any goodybag and/or top-up credit you have.

Before you start read the information below:

  • It can take up to 24 hours for a SIM swap to complete (but it’s usually quicker). And you will lose service while it's processing.
  • SIM swap is not available between 9.30pm and 4.30am.
  • If you’ve recently requested to move your number to or from giffgaff, please don’t try to swap your SIM.

Will my contacts be transferred over?

No, sadly not. When doing a SIM swap your other data, such as contacts and texts, won't be transferred. So make sure you save them to your phone (not your SIM) before you start.
