Today we’re taking a look at Huawei’s latest smartphones, the P20 and P20 Pro, as we recommend ten of the best cases and other accessories available. These phones aren’t as well known as alternatives from Samsung or Sony, but Huawei have shown immense growth in recent years and the P20 series may be something of a breakthrough for the Chinese company so it’s well worth spending time on it.
Before we begin, note that there are three P20 phones: the high-end P20 Pro, the cheaper P20 and the cheaper still P20 Lite. As all three models have different dimensions, you’ll need to find cases made specifically for your particular model. We’ll be covering only the first two in this article, as finding cases that are available for all three models was too much of a challenge. Anyway, let’s get started!
Part 1: Huawei P20 / P20 Pro cases
1. Spigen Rugged Armor Tough Case - £18
This stylish TPU case combines excellent protection with slim dimensions, making for a case with few real weaknesses. The case is good looking, with a three part design that uses a carbon fibre effect for a modern appearance, while air cushions in each corner help to absorb the impact of drops and knocks. Of course, there are also cutouts throughout for the camera, ports, sensors and other features, as is the case with all of the cases that we’ll feature today. A strong all-around case for either phone.
2. Official Huawei Smart View Flip Case - £20
The Smart View case is a slim flip cover that offers a unique feature: the semi-transparent shade built into the front cover allows you to see the time, notifications and other information easily. Unlike many other flip cases, there are no wallet slots or other features included, making for a super streamlined case that adds minimal bulk. A nice official option from Huawei here.
3. Olixar FlexiShield Case - £6
This low-cost case is available in a range of colours, allowing you to accessorise your phone while adding nominal protection against drops, knocks and scratches. The case is lightweight, adding minimal bulk, while still being easy to apply and remove thanks to its flexible nature. That makes the FlexiShield an awesome budget option.
4. Official Huawei Car Case - £18
This innovative case contains a metal plate on the back, allowing you to use it easily with magnetic car holders in order to hold your P20 Pro at the right position without needing to slide it into and then out of a vice-like grip every time. The case is otherwise slim and stylish, offering nominal protection while maintaining the phone’s beautiful design.
5. Olixar ArmourDillo Protective Case - £10
This multi-layer case provides incredible protection against drops and scratches, ensuring your expensive new smartphone remains in good condition for longer. Impact-resistant polycarbonate is used externally, while a softer TPU polymer provides increased force absorption. The case uses textures throughout to add grip and lower weight, while a built-in kickstand allows for hands-free video watching. Cool!
Part 2: Huawei P20 / P20 Pro accessories
6. Olixar Tempered Glass Screen Protector - £13
I always recommend tempered glass screen protectors these days, as I feel they provide the best ‘bang for the buck’ when it comes to keeping your phone in one piece. Spending just over a tenner in this case will provide you with a long-lasting and easy-to-install glass screen protector that prevents your screen from getting scratched, cracked or even shattering – and given that it costs hundreds of pounds to replace a screen, isn’t that a good investment?
7. 4smarts VoltDock USB-C - £20
This simple USB-C dock provides everything you could ever want: case compatibility and easy portrait mode charging and syncing. It also has a bland and inoffensive design and costs very little. USB-C should persist for quite a long time, so the odds are good that you’ll be using this dock well into the next decade. It’s also quite portable at less than 100 grams, so you can take it with you to the office or on holiday.
8. Soundmagic E10 in-ear headphones - £35
These award-winning headphones boast excellent sound quality, as you can see from the Stuff quote above. They’re also good-looking and durable, thanks to their metal design and reinforced cables. The headphones come with a fabric carrying case, so you can make sure they don’t get damaged or tangled in the bottom of your pocket. There’s also room in there for the seven pairs of ear tips these headphones come with, ensuring a perfect fit for anyone. Don’t be satisfied with the crummy earphones that come in the box with the P20 Pro – upgrade to something like these and enjoy your music!
9. Kingston Canvas 32GB Micro SD card - £20
Micro SD cards are always a good shout for phones that have slots for them; might as well use that cheap extra capacity, right? This is the perfect place to put your music, photos and videos, where you can store loads without clogging up your phone’s limited internal storage. This 32GB card from Kingston is inexpensive, and meets the UHS Speed Class 1 standard you should really look for at a minimum – choose UHS Speed Class 3 (or just U3) if you want to record 4K video directly to the card. Micro SD cards are somewhat of a commodity if you’re not fussed about small speed differences, so it’s well worth shopping around.
10. Goobay Magnetic USB-C Cable - £15
Here’s something interesting: a USB-C cable that has the same kind of helpful magnetic apparatus as the MacBook. Instead of jerking your phone to the floor if you step on the cable while it’s charging, this cable breaks away harmlessly. It’s also easier to plug in; just get the cable in approximately the right area and the magnets ensure a perfect connection every time. This cable is also quite durable, with a braided design that should keep it in use for years and years.
