Cookie Policy
1. What are cookies?
A "cookie" is a piece of information, like a tag, which some websites create on your PC/mobile phone which identifies your PC/mobile phone whenever you visit that website. In order to provide you with the best possible online experience, giffgaff may create cookies when you visit giffgaff.com, whether this is on your mobile or your PC. Cookies help us to arrange content to match your preferred interests, and take into account your giffgaff customisations. They’re also used by most major websites. You may also find that some third party sites use cookies – sites such as YouTube – when you view an embedded video, or Social Networks such as Facebook and Twitter

2. What are cookies used for?
Suppliers for giffgaff, who assist in the serving and targeting of advertisements, promotions and other marketing messages, may also use cookies to collect anonymous data such as how many people have viewed a particular page each day, this information can also be used to limit the amount an existing giffgaff customer’s served advertising. It’s important to note that cookies don’t harm your computer and don’t store personal information about you, such as credit card details, rather they store encrypted information which can access this information, helping to improve your giffgaff experience.
In order to help you, cookies may be used to:
- Limit the frequency with which you will see particular advertisements or announcement from giffgaff on our website;
- Identify your defaults where you have customised your profile;
- Keep track of how many times you do specific things, such as posting in the forums;
- Track where you have come from if you were referred to our website;
- Provide you with self-help information;
- Make our offers more relevant to you by taking into account your response to previous, similar offers;
- Remarket giffgaff ads to you as you browse the internet; and
- Help us understand how our advertising impressions correlate with visits to webpages on giffgaff.com so we can improve our marketing strategies.
In addition to the cookies listed below, we also use other technologies that do not depend on traditional browser technology like cookies, including server-side tracking implementations, but they perform in a similar way to cookies, to use data you’ve provided to us on our website (e.g. name, contact details) to analyse and measure the performance of our ads and assist us with delivering advertising that is relevant to you. We use several techniques to protect you when we share your data with third parties, including a hashing process, to ensure that your data is secure, and those third parties can only identify you if they already hold information about you. Such technologies include:
Enhanced Conversions
This is an extension of the Google Ads tag, which captures and hashes contact data, such as the email address and phone number of web-users, before sharing it with Google for analytics and bidding optimisation purposes. Google securely matches the hashed data against hashed Google account data to help us receive aggregated conversion reporting. Google also uses this consented data for modelling purposes and to better understand the behaviour of non-consented users. Google holds the hashed data for 7 days and we retain the anonymised insights for analytics and research purposes for as long as needed in line with our retention policy. For more information on Google’s use of this data, please refer to Google’s policies.
Conversions API (CAPI)
CAPI creates a direct connection between our website and Meta, which allows us to send hashed contact details, such as name, email address, and phone numbers, to Meta. Meta uses this information to match in real time, within 48 hours, customers with Meta technology user profiles. After the matching process is complete, this information (whether it is matched, or unmatched) is discarded. We also send event data to Meta, such as information on how you’ve interacted with us online, that Meta combines with the hasted contact details for aggregated and anonymous measurement and analytics. For these purposes, Meta acts as our processor. Meta also uses this information for their own business purposes. Please see Meta’s policies for more information. These technologies serve marketing purposes as described above. We use them only where we have your consent to marketing which can be provided and managed via your cookie setting (‘‘marketing cookies’’).
TikTok Events API
We use the TikTok Events API to send hashed data (e.g., purchases, form submissions, page views, provided contact details) from our server directly to TikTok. This helps us measure the success of our advertising and show you more relevant ads on TikTok. This data is kept for up to 18 months. When we use it for reporting and insights, we and TikTok are joint controllers, meaning we share responsibility for the data. When we use it for ad personalization and security, we are separate controllers, each responsible for our own part. For some technical tasks, such as integration on our website, TikTok acts as our processor. For more details on how TikTok handles your data, please see their privacy policy.
